Reports from the Ground by BAM

Entry #2: Spring 2007

Here's what I saw on my last trip to Solomon:  some ATV use but much less than last fall.  Signs are up prohibiting ATV's but no signs prohibiting 4-wheel drives, though there should be.  Walkers should bring their cell phones with them and call the police when spotting illegal activity.  Captain Shea is our liaison with the Police Department.

In Eisenhower, at the north edge of the model airplane field, there was a glut of 4-wheel drive tire marks.  The new corridor for the UI towers has demolished important bird and other wildlife habitat. There seems to be little attention to the "Dogs on Leash" law. Erosion along the river is intense.  Roots exposed, trees falling into the water.  A simple cure would be to cut off access to the river trail and put a new trail in farther from the river.
