$10 million for school bus retrofits in CT
The House of Representatives voted Thursday to approve budget "implementers" that put the state budget into effect, following an overwhelming Senate vote last week. The good news is that it includes $10 million for school bus retrofits with the funding spread out over 2 years! The budget now goes to the governor who is expected to sign it.
The funding will cover the full cost of purchasing and installing pollution control devices for the approximately 3,400 school buses in the state that are able to have retrofits. more>>
SB 1032
The ECC diesel chair has been working as part of the Connecticut Alliance against Diesel Pollution (CAADP). CAADP is working to pass SB 1032,
a bill that would provide $11 million to retrofit the 3,400 school buses capable of accepting the filter systems. At present, exhaust leaking into bus cabins can create fume levels 10 times greater than outside air.

School Pesticide Bill (HB 5234)
Fantastic News! (5/23/07)
The Senate just voted on the school pesticide Bill (HB 5234) - and would you believe the Senate vote was unanimous. The Bill has a small amendment on it which does not effect the Bill - but it now must go back to the House for a re-vote. However the House had voted 145 in favor and only 2 against the Bill on May 9th. This bodes very well for its final passage.
This means that only 2 legislators in the whole state voted against this Bill. It is unbelievable that only 2 legislators out of 187 ( 36 State Senators and 151 State Representatives) voted against this Bill. This is indeed AMAZING.
Thank you all. So many of you worked so hard - and there are so many legislators to thank - but we will wait until it passes the House once again to thank everyone.
When the final House vote happens I will let you know - and then it will be time to thank so many people. Senator Finch did a great job tonight bringing up the Bill - and of coarse Senator Meyer who championed the Bill from the beginning has been wonderful.
There are so many Representative to thank as well - but we will wait until it passes the House for the second time and then we will thank those very important Representatives who have been so incredibly helpful.
