Energy Task Force
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is clean energy?
A: Clean energy is energy from solar, wind, hydro (water) and other clean energy resources. Clean Water Fund only supports clean energy offers which meet the Green-e standard . Green-e excludes trash incineration, specific purchases of nuclear power and requires the disclosure of all sources used. It also mandates that at least 20% of the offering goes to new clean energy resources. Both the CT Clean Energy Options exceed the Green-e standard and are endorsed by environmental non-profits like Clean Water Fund.
Q: Is clean energy as reliable as the power I get now?
A: Yes. There is no difference. You will still receive the same reliability from the grid, and the same utility company you have now will continue to deliver power to your house.
Q: Will clean energy be delivered directly to my home?
A: No - it will be delivered into the grid. We all pay for energy to be supplied to the power grid on our behalf. Right now, you?re paying for the standard mix of resources. When you enroll in the CTCleanEnergyOptions, you will pay a small additional cost for wind, small hydro, and other clean sources. Your individual choice to enroll in CTCleanEnergyOptions sends a powerful market signal that these are the energy sources the region wants.
Q: Why does a group called "Clean Water Fund" work on clean energy?
A: Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund work on environmental issues which impact human health. We worked to lead the clean-up of the Sooty-Six power plants and are a partner in the 20% by 2010 campaign to encourage towns to purchase clean energy and help end our reliance on fossil fuels. Clean Water Action also coordinates the state-wide Connecticut Climate Coalition ( www.newenglandclimate.org ) to address global warming. Clean energy is a key way to protect public health, reduce air pollution and reduce our greenhouse gas pollution.
Q: How can I learn more about how to support clean energy and stop global warming?
A: If you are not on our email list, please contact rsmith@cleanwater.org and we will add you. Also, please to call Roger at 860-232-6232 to learn more about our campaigns and how you can help make a difference! Thank you for all your work to support
