Earth Day 2006
“No child (young or old) left inside” is the theme for
Milford’s celebration of Earth Day 2006, scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd.
“We want to encourage every one to get out in the sun and fresh air and experience the many opportunities
Milford provides for pleasant outdoor exercise and recreation,” Mayor James
Richetelli, Jr. stated.
The day will be devoted to fun outdoor activities, such as
hiking, biking, sports events and an opportunity to enjoy some of Milford’s most interesting
parks and natural places. In addition, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be out in force
to conduct litter clean-ups at Milford
beaches and parks.
A highlight of the day will be a visit from Gina McCarthy,
Commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Environmental Protection, who
will be at the Milford Green between 1:15 and 2 p.m. to meet Milford residents and
discuss her goals for our state’s agency for protection of our environment.
A full day of activities is planned for residents to enjoy. Bird walks at Gulf Pond and Silver Sands State Park can be enjoyed as well as a Milford
Downtown Tree Walk. The Milford Marine Institute will conduct an Open House, providing a most interesting destination for a hike or a bike ride.
Other events are also being planned, and will be announced
when details are available.
